January 2023

Dear Juniata Community,

The start of a new semester is an exciting time on campus and a moment to look forward to new endeavors, opportunities, and moments to celebrate.

As we have for the past four years, many Juniatians spent the day before the advent of classes completing projects in the community as part of our observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Monday, Jan. 16. It’s such a great experience to see the connections our students make as they volunteer and to work alongside them as they paint, clean, organize, or bake in service of others.

Students, faculty, and staff came together once more Tuesday, Jan. 17, for our annual Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation. We were inspired by the words of keynote speaker Dr. Cynthia Merriwether-deVries, Professor Emerita of sociology, as she encouraged the tireless pursuit of Dr. King’s vision of the “Beloved Community.”

The positive energy continues as we look forward to a semester filled with success and opportunities and as we connect with potential future Juniatians. These prospective students are preparing to make an all-important decision, and your encouragement goes a long way. I look forward to seeing you at events or on campus and wish you well in the new year.

Warm regards,
President James A. Troha

A New Semester

The coffee was hot and the air was cold for the traditional kick-off to the semester—Coffee on the Quad. There was coffee, camaraderie, and conversation, along with some visiting canines (President and Mrs. Troha's dogs, Lyla and Lainey).

Save the Date

The third annual Day of Giving will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023. During the 24-hour, campus-wide effort, alumni, parents and friends come together to transform the student experience.

Juniata Serves

Juniata students, faculty, and staff spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 16, observing the National Day of Service by working with local organizations in both the Huntingdon and Mount Union communities.

Welcome, Coach!

Blake Treadwell has been named as the 24th head coach of the football program. A highly-decorated former student-athlete, and captain, he brings a wealth of football knowledge and coaching experience to Juniata.
