June 2023

Dear Juniata Community,

What a weekend! More than 470 Juniatians returned to campus—one by biking more than 2,250 miles—to celebrate their connection to their alma mater during Alumni Weekend.

Together, we celebrated the milestone reunions of the Classes of 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, and 1998; the presentation of over $3 million raised by the Class of 1973 to support the renovation of the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts; and the recognition of four distinguished alumni for their achievements. John A. Rummel, Ph.D., ’62, of Houston, Texas, earned the College’s Alumni Achievement Award. Joseph D. Houck, Ph.D. ’08, from Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa., was awarded Juniata’s Young Alumni Achievement Award. Mark A. Moyer ’92, of Winfield, Pa., received the William E. Swigart Alumni Humanitarian Award. Gayle Wampler Pollock ’68, of Lewisburg, Pa., was honored with the Harold B. Brumbaugh Alumni Service Award.

I’m proud to announce that Jeff Scaccia has accepted the position of Vice President for Business & Finance. Jeff’s first day on campus will be July 10, 2023.

We will soon welcome the Class of 2027–one of the largest classes in Juniata history–and prospective students to campus as we host orientation and First Look Friday events throughout the summer. Now is a great time to recommend Juniata to a student you know through the Community Scholarship program!

Warm regards,
President James A. Troha

Class of 1973 Presents Gift

Class of 1973’s Legacy Gift committee co-chairs Tom Wynn ’73 and Mary White ’73, and committee members Rick Fornadel ’73, Fred Mason ’73, and Linda (Wachsmuth) McKonly ’73, along with their classmates, presented their 50th Class Reunion legacy gift at Alumni Weekend. The Class of 1973 raised $3,576,319.73, which will support many areas across the College both now and in the future. A portion of their overall gift will be directed to support extensive renovations to Rosenberger Auditorium within the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts, specifically for the replacement of the auditorium seats.

Welcome, Jeff Scaccia

Juniata College will welcome Jeff Scaccia as its new Vice President for Business & Finance this summer. Scaccia will serve as the Chief Financial Officer, managing business, finance, accounts payable, investments, facilities operations, payroll, and auxiliary services. Scaccia comes to Juniata from Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, where he served as Vice President for Finance and Administration.

What a Ride!

Vincent Francischetti ’73 traveled more than 1,800 miles from his home in Billings, Montana, to attend his 50th class reunion during Alumni Weekend. His six-week journey began April 7, when the snow was still falling out west. Vinnie's adventure included stops to visit with classmates and family members along the way east. After celebrating with his classmates, he traveled by train for the return trip!
